Central, Louisiana Real Estate and Community Information

Central or the City of Central, its official name, is a sparkling new city carved out of the East Baton Rouge Parish and formally incorporated in an April 2005 vote. The boundaries of Central encompass roughly 66 square miles.

Central’s borders include Highway 64 to the north, the Comite River to the west and the Amite River to the east. According to the U.S. census, there were nearly 27,000 residents in Central.

Shopping and Dining

Due to its close proximity to the sprawling metropolis of Baton Rouge and its inclusion in the East Baton Rouge Parish, Central has several shopping and dining destinations just a short drive away.

Within the City of Central you’ll find a Walmart, Walgreens and others for your shopping needs.

Hungry? Central has several restaurants to serve you. Among those are Pit Crew Barbeque, Cafe Delphi Mediterranean, and The Jambalaya Shoppe. You’ll also find known fast-food eateries such as Burger King, Dairy Queen, McDonald’s and Raisin Cain’s.

Parks and Recreation

The Recreation and Park Commission for the Parish of East Baton Rouge, which goes by the acronym BREC, operates and maintains all of the more than 180 public parks in the Parish, along with managing the recreation facilities and developing recreational programs for residents of all ages and abilities.

BREC’s offerings are quite extensive. There is a wide range of fitness, arts and culture, nature and outdoors programs and activities for families and individuals. Facilities managed by BREC offer extreme sports and leisure classes, therapeutic recreation opportunities, public golf courses and swimming pools, summer day camps, and the magnificent Baton Rouge Zoo.

Living

In addition to all of the aforementioned parks, recreational opportunities, and shopping and dining options, Central’s happy residents enjoy clean, green neighborhoods and outstanding schools.

Some of the East Baton Rouge Parish’s main employers include Southern Power Systems, CH2M Hill, Coca-Cola Bottling Co., Lane Regional Medical Center and the Southern Forest Products Association.

The City of Central has enjoyed a steady population growth since its incorporation in 2005. And according to the city’s Central Economic Development Foundation, rapid expansion is expected to continue due to the construction of new residential areas, the development of Central’s major roads and the consolidation of its school system.

The transportation needs of East Baton Rouge Parish’s commuters are served by several highways and byways, swiftly flowing city streets and the interstate highways I-10 and I-12.

The Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport provides nonstop flights to major airline hubs including Las Vegas, Memphis, Houston and Memphis.

Residents who need or want to use public transportation around metro Baton Rouge will likely want to check out the services of the Capital Area Transit System (CATS). CATS supplies bus service to a number of locations throughout the city, including stops at Baton Rouge Community College, Southern University and Louisiana State University.
