Making a Smooth Transition

  • Make sure you make arrangements to have your current utilities discontinued and your new home’s utilities started before you move.
  • Change of Address – Bank, IRS, post office, and let your family and friends know of your knew address.
  • Let your kids know as early as possible so that they can get used to the idea.
  • Dispose of any flammable items or make sure they moved with proper care.
  • Pack a bag of move-in clothing and essentials. Examples are clothes for a week, toiletries, snacks.
  • Empty and clean the refrigerator if it staying at the house. The new owner does want your old items. Clean with baking soda.
  • Make any special arrangements needed for transporting pets.
  • It may be a good idea to prune plants before a move. During the move, make sure that the plants are stored in boxes or containers so that the plant does not move around.
  • If you are planning on using a moving company, book them as early as possible.
